What is Holi Splash?
Holi Splash! is a free, browser-based game celebrating the Indian Festival of Colors — Holi. Players ride on the back of the legendary Holi Express truck through a vibrant Indian city, throwing colorful water balloons at characters peeking out from building windows and balconies.
The game captures the joyful chaos of real Holi celebrations — narrow lanes with brightly painted buildings in Jodhpur blue, Jaipur pink, and Rajasthani ochre; chai stalls on every corner; clotheslines strung between balconies; and of course, people armed with pichkaris (water guns) ready to drench you in color right back.

How It Started
Holi Splash! was born from a simple idea: what if you could experience the fun of Holi right from your phone, even if you're thousands of miles from home during the festival? Whether you're an Indian living abroad missing the celebrations, or someone from another culture curious about this beautiful tradition, we wanted to bring the spirit of Holi to everyone, everywhere.
The game was built from scratch as an independent project by a solo developer in India, with every building, character, and color explosion crafted to evoke the authentic feeling of Indian streets during Holi.
Five Levels of Holi Fun
The game features five progressively challenging levels, each inspired by the escalating energy of a real Holi celebration:
🌅 Level 1 — Gully Gali
A quiet neighborhood lane to warm up. Simple targets appear in windows at a gentle pace. Perfect for learning how to aim, discovering the combo system, and getting a feel for the Holi Express truck as it rolls through the city.
🏙️ Level 2 — Rang Bazaar
The market streets come alive with color! Speedy characters start dodging your balloons, and the first throwers appear — people armed with pichkaris who fight back by throwing color at you. The truck picks up speed and targets spawn faster.
🌆 Level 3 — Color Storm
Things get serious. Shielded targets appear carrying umbrellas — you'll need two direct hits to splash them. Combined with speedy dodgers and aggressive throwers, your aim and timing need to be sharp to keep your combo alive.
🎆 Level 4 — Holi Madness
Total chaos erupts on the streets! The truck races through the city at high speed. Double speedy characters and double throwers create a relentless barrage. Shielded targets add to the challenge. Only skilled players with good balloon management survive this level.
👑 Level 5 — Legend Mode
The ultimate test. Every target is either speedy, shielded, or a thrower — no easy normal targets remain. The truck moves at breakneck speed and targets spawn at an incredible rate. Reaching Legend Mode is an achievement; surviving it is legendary.
Characters You'll Meet
The streets of Holi Splash! are filled with colorful characters, each with their own personality:
Normal Characters
Friendly faces who pop up in windows to enjoy the festival. They stay visible for a few seconds before ducking back inside. Splash them for points!
⭐ Golden Characters
Rare and valuable! Wearing golden crowns and glowing with a warm aura, these special characters are worth five times the normal points and reward you with bonus balloons when splashed.
🏃 Speedy Characters
Wearing sunglasses and full of energy, these characters dodge left and right in their windows. They disappear quickly, so you need fast reflexes to catch them.
🛡️ Shielded Characters
Protected by colorful umbrellas, these characters require two hits — the first hit breaks their shield, the second splashes them with color. They're worth extra points for the effort.
💦 Thrower Characters
Armed with pichkaris (traditional Holi water guns), these characters fight back! A pulsing red warning ring appears before they throw color at your camera. Splash them before they strike, or dodge the incoming color blast.
Power-Ups and Weapons
As you progress through levels, you earn power-ups to help you dominate the streets:
💥 Triple Shot
Fire three rapid balloons in quick succession, each automatically seeking the nearest target. Perfect for clearing clusters of characters.
⏳ Slow Motion
Slows everything down for five seconds, giving you time to line up perfect shots and deal with throwers. The world moves at a third of its normal speed.
🌈 Mega Splash
The ultimate power-up. Launches a massive color bomb that splashes every visible target on screen simultaneously. Use it when the screen is packed for maximum impact.
You'll also find glowing weapon orbs floating near buildings. Collect them to get temporary special weapons like the Balloon Gun (rapid fire), Water Gun (splash damage), Color Cannon (massive explosions), and Color Tornado (hits up to five targets at once).
The Combo and Streak System
Holi Splash! rewards accuracy and consistency. Every consecutive hit increases your combo multiplier, boosting the points you earn for each splash. Miss a target and your combo resets to one.
Build a streak of five or more hits without missing to enter "On Fire" mode, which earns you bonus balloons. Reach eight hits for "Unstoppable" status, and ten hits for the "Legendary" streak — complete with screen shake and a generous balloon bonus.
The combo and streak systems work together to create a risk-reward dynamic: do you play it safe with easy targets, or go for tricky speedy and shielded characters to keep your streak alive?
About Holi — The Festival of Colors
Holi is one of India's most beloved festivals, celebrated every spring (usually in March) to mark the arrival of the season of colors and the triumph of good over evil. The festival has ancient roots in Hindu mythology and is celebrated across India and around the world.
During Holi, people take to the streets to throw colored powders (gulal) and water at each other. Traditional greetings like "Bura na mano, Holi hai!" (Don't take it to heart, it's Holi!) capture the spirit of the festival — a time when everyone is equal, social barriers dissolve, and the whole community comes together in a riot of color, music, and celebration.
Popular Holi traditions include smearing colored powders, using pichkaris (water guns) and water balloons, sharing festive sweets like gujiya and thandai, lighting bonfires on Holika Dahan (the night before Holi), and visiting friends and family to spread joy.
In 2026, Holi falls on March 14 (Holika Dahan) and March 4 (Rangwali Holi — the main day of playing with colors). Holi Splash! is our way of bringing this incredible festival to your screen.
